MUI Classes Information for classic Amiga with 680X0 processors

The List to aspire to......

Last updated: 26.10.06.

Key

Colour Means
Red Included as part of MUI 3.8 user archive.
Orange Included as part of MUI 3.8 user archive, but I have found a newer version!
Green Not included in MUI 3.8 distribution. This is a third party class.

This document lists the latest MUI classes for MC680x0 Amiga computers and is intended as a reference for those users that wish to compare their versions with those I have installed. I have not provided external download links to the authors page for each class because it is impossible to maintain particularly when a site moves to another URL. Do not send me mail asking me for the newest MUI classes either as I do not have the time. Such mails will be ignored. You may also find some useful information at the end of this document, which I suggest you take a look at.

I would like to thank Kevin Harrison, who provided a great deal of assistance and help in informing me of new updates, and who also inspired me to produce a useful guide to Magic User Interface class information after the demise of the Tummult web page, which was originally the main resource for updates.

Additional notes regarding the above list of classes:

Aboutmui.mui (v19.8)
This class is installed by default when MUI 3.8 is first installed. You should delete it, since it wastes memory. This mui class lets you register MagicUserInterface using MUIPrefs. It serves no other purpose.

CManager.mcc
Requires CManager.library copied to LIBS: for full operation.

Floattext.mui (v19.8)
Replaces original Floatext.mui (v3.8) by Stefan Stuntz from MUI 3.8 distribution and acts as a stub to NFloatext.mcc which adds clipboard support. But whether you want to use this "better" version or not and if it is 100% compatible to the original is a matter of opinion and your decision.

HotKeyString (v11.2)
A newer HotString version 12.0 exists, It is now being developed by Ikka Lehtoranta under permission from the original author, Allan Odgaard. It includes further hotkey support: PageUp, PageDown, Home, End, Insert, PrtScr, Scroll Lock, Pause, NumLock, F11, F12 and extra media keys as on some PC keyboards. Two versions of the 12.0 version exist; one for m68k and another for PPC MorphOS. However, m68k users can't really take advantage of the new keys because commodities.library doesn't translate them. Whether or not you decide to use this new version is entirely your decission. IMHO, I cannot see the benefit of using it!

Icon.mcc (v1.2)
If you are not using OS 3.5+, you must use the original version of Icon.mcc v1.1 (04/09/1996) by Russel Leighton.

MagicWB.mcc (v19.5)
This class is installed by default when MUI 3.8 is first installed. You should delete it, since it wastes memory. This mui class lets you register "MagicWB" using MUIPrefs. It serves no other purpose.

Popxxx.mcp (v17.104)
Popxxx.mcp v17.109 23/07/1997 © Klaus Melchior exists, but further investigation reveals that access to all the preference panels connected with the popxxx classes are barred from being used due to a bug. Use Popxxx.mcp v17.104 instead as this version works fine.

TearOff.mcp (v14.2)
Causes Enforcer hits when clicked on in prefs/or prefs are quit. Use v13.1 instead which is known to work fine.

TearOffBay.mcc (v14.2) / TearOffPanel.mcc (v14.3)
Comes with hvdragbar.image to go into SYS:Classes/Images. Try to obtain latest versions of class if you possibly can. Earlier versions can be a bit flaky in operation despite the major advantage and flexibility it offers.

Term.mcc (27.3)
In order for Term to correctly display ANSI text from Bulettin Boards Systems, Term.mcc needs HyperANSI.font in your FONTS directory - you then need to bring up MUIPrefs, select 'Term' and for the Terminal font, select HyperANSI.

Some earlier versions of Term.mcc used to cause enforcer hits when clicked on in the prefs. Also atm I can neither confirm or deny whether later versions of Term.mcc work properly with file transfer using XPR libraries for usage under AmTelnet to retrieve files using the XPR protocol. Something I need to look into further.

Toolbar.mcc (v15.8) / Toolbar.mcp (v15.8)
Since version 15.6 the author of this class added support for ImagePool.library ( latest 0.8beta ) however it can work without it, and I suggest you do considering the information provided by this URL:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=454995&group_id=13560&atid=113560

TWFmultiLED.mcc (v12.8) / TWFmultiLED.mcp (v12.7)
Earlier versions of this class were a tad flaky/unstable, but these versions should be fine.
